This series of watercolors embraces gestural drawing as a framework in which to launch abstract and intuitive aspects of the watercolor medium. At times, the watercolor is densely layered, in contrast to other passages where the medium is left loose and ephemeral. The language of color and light is applied deeply as a process of thought, inquiry, and expression. Each painting is developed intensely over time and multiple sessions, allowing for ongoing reflection and responsiveness to an oftentimes fugitive medium. The watercolor evolves through its effervescent and unpredictable moments, providing a balance of representation and abstraction.
